Thanks Tim, the xiph.org codec installation solved the problem.
I was already using 1.8 of the MadFLAC codec. I duplicated the problem on a
second
PC. Perhaps I'll look for a forum or similar where I can report my
observations.

mp3's only playing part of the track

My mp3 tracks play for 01:24 or 01:03 and then go on to the next track. This
only happens with mp3's, not wma files. It happens with both Media Player and
Winamp. It doesn't happen with CD's I've ripped straight onto this computer,

How can I force WMP to use the names I have given my sound files, like
"Lecture on Dystopian Futures" or "Rain sounds" rather than the original
names they did have like DS400789? It's very irritating of WMP to ignore me
like this.

Can I change the time in which WMP gives up on a url that it is playing from?
I need to change the time or get rid of the feature all together if
possible.. I need WNP to keep checking to see if the feed is available!!!

WMP 11 has no sound

Did a clean install of XP and running WMP 11 with an Audigy ZS2 soundblaster
card. Get all the pc sounds and I can play my mp3 library with iTunes. When
trying a cd all WMP does is scan the tracks when I hit play, iTunes will
import it to my library and play it. Did an unistall/reinstall of WMP still

Go to Start - Run, copy/paste the following in the Run window, and press
Enter:
regsvr32 /u "%PROGRAMFILES%\Windows Media Player\wmpband.dll"
Next, open the Run window again, and do the same for the following:
regsvr32 "%PROGRAMFILES%\Windows Media Player\wmpband.dll"
Reboot and the mini player should work again.

In WMP's library, right-click the song (or multiple selected songs), and
select Advanced Tag Editor. Go to Artist Info, you can edit the Album
Artist there without affecting Contributing Artist.

I assume that you mean the madFLAC decoder? What version do you have
installed? The latest version seems to be 1.8, if yours is older, you
can download the newer version from

If that doesn't help, uninstall madFLAC and install the DirectShow
filters at [link] , these will allow WMP to play FLAC

What output do you get when you type the following in a Command Prompt
window?
nslookup fai.music.metaservices.microso ft.com
Check if WMP is still unable to connect to the Internet when booting in
clean boot mode. See [link] for
